The Great Bustard Group was greatly honoured to host a visit by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales earlier in the year. To mark the visit of His Royal Highness to the Great Bustard re-introduction project on the Salisbury Plain on Friday 17th March, His Royal Highness sent a kind donation to The Great Bustard Group which we have assured His Royal Highness, has been put to very good use.
Funding the project is one of the greatest challenges and the donation was put towards the cost of food for the chicks we have hand reared from eggs collected in Spain. The young birds are shortly to be released into the wild and add to the established population which is starting to grow through natural breeding.
Although the chicks are now nearly ready to go out into the wild the project expenses continue; the GBG spends over £12 000 on renting the land of it’s reserves and these are then cultivated to benefit the Bustards. Annual project costs are over £100 000 a year – all raised by the GBG and our supporters. The easiest way to support the work of the GBG is to join as a member. All the details on how to join can be found on this web site.
