GBG Director David Waters is in Russia and sending updates whenever he is able to:
Diakovka is such a different place now when compared with how it looked a month ago. Everything is green with the occasional splash of brightly coloured blossom.
Bee Eaters are all over the village, the sky is full of swallows, martins and swifts, all reaching for the skies when a hunting Hobby cruised by.
I had a short walk around the village this evening and counted eight Red-backed Shrikes without trying. A Thrush Nightingale was calling at the back of the field station, and the warble of Golden Orioles betrays their presence around the administration building.
The journey here is a trying one, but at this time of year, before it gets too hot, this is a great place to be.
