GBG Director David Waters is in Russia monitoring the Great Bustard nesting season:
A very quiet day here, but I am going to the local school tomorrow to launch their new students society, which will cover three other schools and concentrate on English and the Environment. The seeds were sown last time, and they have been quick get it organised.
Equally encouraging is my invitation to take a guest entry in the annual Saratov fishing competition. I met the new head of the Fisheries in September, and as he is a member of the Ecological Committee, it seems diplomatic to accept. The fact that he is sending a car to Diakovka to collect me and that I have no doubt there will be a monumental celebration after a day’s hard fishing may have also influenced my acceptance!
This is on Monday, so a few more days of dust yet…
