David Waters, GBG Director, and Charlie Moores, Otis Editor, were delighted to represent the GBG at a charity reception in aid of the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust and Devizes Canoe Club held by Wiltshire High Sheriff Dame Elizabeth Neville at the beautiful Stonar School in north Wiltshire. Dame Elizabeth, who retired as Chief Constable of Wiltshire Constabulary in 2004, is a great supporter of the GBG and invited us, in her words, to help raise the group’s profile. Amongst the assembled guests were current and former Mayors from Ambridge, Devizes, Trowbridge, and Wootton Bassett, leading local businessmen/women, and former High Sheriffs.
The GBG set up a stand under the marquee and spent a very enjoyable and interesting three hours talking bustards to a constant flow of visitors. A number of people took away membership forms and we were given donations totalling several hundred pounds.
The GBG would like to again thank Dame Elizabeth for her hospitality and support, and to thank her for giving us such a good opportunity to ‘spread the word’. Another reception is planned for this Sunday which we plan to also attend – if you’d like to offer your help please get in touch!
