Friday 3rd June saw the GBG hosting the Minister for the Natural Environment, Richard Benyon MP, at the project site on Salisbury Plain.
Our main themes were the lack of special protection for Great Bustards, the rarest breeding bird in the UK, under schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act, and the lack of any provision for Great Bustard habitat mangement under the Agri-Environment schemes.
The Minister stated he would explore the concerns we have and agreed that we would be in touch again in the near future.
He also declared himself to be very impressed with the project, and was delighted that we were able to show him some of the UK’s Great Bustards.
