Cake sale at The Mill School, Potterne

on 2nd March David Waters, dosage GBG Director, and I paid a morning visit to The Mill School – a really charming, small Independent prep school set in stunning Wiltshire countryside.

We were given a very warm welcome and were thoroughly impressed by the pupils and teachers…so much so that when we were told that the school was holding a cake sale on the 4th in aid of the GBG and asked if we’d like to come along we quickly agreed.

David discovered that he had to attend to other GBG matters on the 4th unfortunately, but that still left me – so I duly made the short drive to Potterne to represent the Group.

And I’m very glad that I did!

In the Assembly Hall was a table groaning under the weight of enough cakes to feed a small army, and a queue of extremely polite children holding out coins in exchange for a choice of three cakes (given the variety of cakes, slices, and brownies on offer choosing three wasn’t easy!) to see them through break-time. The table was manned by a group of Year 6 helpers – all who had volunteered to give up their break to support the GBG for which we’re extremely grateful: our thanks to Arron Oliphant, Sholto Wilson, James Caldwell, Aaron Hinder, Katie Cox, and Emily Stainer for their hard work!

What a fantastic selection!

I couldn’t resist this charming duck-shaped brownie…

Cakes sold, money raised, and still smiling!
Our thanks go to the splendid volunteers for their efforts.
The school will be totting up what they raised in the next few days, but in the meantime on behalf of the GBG can I again thank the staff and pupils for their tremendous support and very warm welcome (and for the three cakes they bagged up for me to eat when I got home!).
