In December 2020, GBG founder David Waters was awarded an MBE for services to Wildlife Conservation and the Reintroduction of Rare Native Species to the UK.

After a covid delay, David was finally invited to a presentation at Windsor Castle. David’s investiture was conducted by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Cambridge.

Like his father, the Duke of Cambridge was remarkably knowledgeable about the project and commented on the international support from both Russia and Spain.

He was complimentary about the work of the charity and the fundraising initiatives going on in Wiltshire.

The award recognises David’s passion and commitment to the cause. But, more broadly, it reflects the work our volunteers, partners, donors and supporters have done to help restore the GBG to the UK.
