Our Open Day returns on Saturday  7th and Sunday 8th of September, at Enford Village Hall (SN9 6DD)

Between 9am and 4pm we will offer talks, refreshments, merchandise and guided tours to see the Great Bustards.

Saturday 7th September.

10am, Sofia Munoz (NE) – Southern England Hen Harrier Project.
An update on the plans to re-establish the Hen Harrier as a breeding bird in Wiltshire.

11am, Jon Isherwood (WSBRC) – Recording for Conservation.
How data collection and analysis can lead to conservation actions.

12 noon, Major Andy Riddell (Training Safety Officer on Salisbury Plain) – Complexities of SPTA.
The incredible balance of all the military training needs and hosts of other activities.

2pm, Hugh Anderson (Downton Distillery) – Great Bustard Gin.
Developing the unique and award-winning Great Bustard Gin, tasting session included!

3pm, David Waters (Great Bustard Group) – The Restoration of Wiltshire’s Bird.
The history of the Great Bustard in Wiltshire brought up to date.

Sunday 8th September.

10am, Mike Dilger (BBC One Show and Spring Watch – Never Work With Children or Animals.
Informative and entertaining talk, featuring clips from the BBC’s One Show, some hilarious incidents, and why he thinks they might just be some of the most important films he’s ever made.

11am Prof Nigel Collar (IUCN Bustard Specialist Group) – Bustards, high delight, deep despair, and plain determination.
The world of Bustards and the challenges they face. A fascinating presentation from a truly brilliant speaker.

12 noon, Steve Colwill (Great Bustard Group) – Nest Searching with Drones and Demonstration.
How the Great Bustard Group finds nests in silage crops with a practical demonstration of the thermal imaging drone.

2pm, David Waters (Great Bustard Group) – The Restoration of Wiltshire’s Bird.
The history of the Great Bustard in Wiltshire brought up to date.
